Accountancy 'job prospects good'
Demand for qualified accountants remains strong in all sectors despite the current uncertain economic climate, it has been claimed.
Teresa Thorrington-Allen, national director at Hays Senior Finance, said those who ensure they are as well trained as possible should have little cause to worry about employment.
"Skilled qualified accountants are still reaping the benefits of a candidate-driven market across all sectors, and that is something we see being unlikely to change," she added.
Figures published by the Office for National Statistics indicate a fall in both the number of people in work and the employment rate.
Growth in average earnings, excluding bonuses, is unchanged but earnings growth including bonuses has fallen, according to the organisation.
Studies by the Association of Graduate Recruiters suggest Vacancies for graduate level positions are growing with a rise of 11.7 per cent on 2007 figures, while almost three-fifths of employers surveyed expected to report an increase in vacancies in 2008.
